Is Fame to Blame for Kelce's Performance?

 

Though a majority of coverage of Sunday’s game of the Kansas City Chiefs was mainly talked about due to the lack of Taylor Swift as she did not attend, there was also a wide array of online coverage of Travis Kelce as well as he looked disheveled and (some even said) miserable on the sidelines. In the 22-17 victory against the Atlanta Falcons, Kelce was targeted for five receptions, only catching four for a total of 30 yards. This led a lot of fans, and haters alike, to an important question: where is Travis Kelce?

Since the relationship between Swift and Kelce began last year, there have been many opportunities outside of football that the 3x Super Bowl champion has taken advantage of both on and off season. From showing up to the US Open just a few days after the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens to showing his acting abilities in the new FX show Grotesquerie, it is clear that he is booked and busy outside of football. However, this has led to online scrutiny saying that Kelce is not fully focused on football. 

But what does Kelce and others close to him say about this? From Travis himself on his New Heights podcast, he said that he is still committed to the game but is struggling with the tough “play making” defenses he has played thus far this season and is still committed to making bigger plays down the field. Others stepped in to defend Kelce, including Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes who said that plays are getting called but also brought up how defenses are covering him more so other plays have to be made instead.

Now That I See Your Brother as My Brother: A Response to the Jason Kelce Incident

  The relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce was heavily broadcasted within the media this past weekend, instead now through an incident involving Kelce’s older brother, Jason Kelce , involving the use of a homophobic slur. While in Pennsylvania to appear on ESPN’s “College Gameday” for a game Saturday against Penn State and Ohio State, Jason Kelce was surrounded by students when one student began to heckle him. The student followed Kelce while recording him and asked "Hey Kelce! How does it feel your brother is a f***** for dating Taylor Swift?" As a response, Jason Kelce turned around and spiked the phone and continued to walk away while responding to the fan “Who’s the f***** now?” A majority of fans stood by Travis’ older brother for standing up to a fan who used the anti-LGBTQIA+ slur, some called the 7 time Pro-Bowler out for using the slur back. Don't Blame Me: What Will Happen If/When the Chiefs Break Their Undefeated Streak?

After a relaxing bye week, the Kansas City Chiefs are entering Week 7 of the NFL season undefeated and are currently one of the two teams who still have not added a loss to their record (along with the Minnesota Vikings ). During the week, the most highly publicized couple in all of football were seen out and about in New York City attending dinner with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively as well as attending the first ALCS game between the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees. Though the team remains undefeated, the Chiefs will face off against their Super Bowl LVIII opponent, the San Francisco 49ers , on Sunday.
