It's Me, Hi!

To anyone who is reading this, hello and welcome to The Swift Sunday Recap!


My name is Annie Elburn and I am a student at Salisbury University studying communication in multimedia journalism. Currently, I am taking a course about sports communication and have been tasked with creating a blog about a topic within the sports realm so here we are!


Though I have been a die-hard Baltimore Ravens fan for my entire life, when thinking of a topic to write about for my blog I decided to take a unique take and combine two of my favorite things: football and Taylor Swift. The football world was taken by storm when the iconic singer-songwriter and Kansas City Chiefs tight-end Travis Kelce seemingly hard-launched their relationship last September during a game against the Chicago Bears. From seeing clips of the couple during and after games in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run to watching Kelce join Swift on-stage in a London show in her record-breaking Eras Tour, the couple has garnered wide-spread media attention and has sent the internet into a frenzy.


Though the attention from this relationship from fans of Taylor Swift have been relatively positive, the feeling is (mostly) not neutral from football fans who say that the relationship is covered too much in the news and to “focus on the game”. This is what inspired me to pick this topic for my blog and to examine whether or not this relationship is in fact a love story or something that is creating bad blood between Swifties and NFL fans. What if I told you she’s back? As the NFL season began, so did the public reactions to Taylor Swift’s appearance at the season opening game in Kansas City against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5th. Now That I See Your Brother as My Brother: A Response to the Jason Kelce Incident

  The relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce was heavily broadcasted within the media this past weekend, instead now through an incident involving Kelce’s older brother, Jason Kelce , involving the use of a homophobic slur. While in Pennsylvania to appear on ESPN’s “College Gameday” for a game Saturday against Penn State and Ohio State, Jason Kelce was surrounded by students when one student began to heckle him. The student followed Kelce while recording him and asked "Hey Kelce! How does it feel your brother is a f***** for dating Taylor Swift?" As a response, Jason Kelce turned around and spiked the phone and continued to walk away while responding to the fan “Who’s the f***** now?” A majority of fans stood by Travis’ older brother for standing up to a fan who used the anti-LGBTQIA+ slur, some called the 7 time Pro-Bowler out for using the slur back. Don't Blame Me: What Will Happen If/When the Chiefs Break Their Undefeated Streak?

After a relaxing bye week, the Kansas City Chiefs are entering Week 7 of the NFL season undefeated and are currently one of the two teams who still have not added a loss to their record (along with the Minnesota Vikings ). During the week, the most highly publicized couple in all of football were seen out and about in New York City attending dinner with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively as well as attending the first ALCS game between the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees. Though the team remains undefeated, the Chiefs will face off against their Super Bowl LVIII opponent, the San Francisco 49ers , on Sunday. There are projections that the reigning world champions will come out with the victory, though there are fans that predict that if the Chiefs do lose that there will be emphasis on the impact of the Kelce/Swift relationship on how the team plays.
